SDK Quickbooks 2008/2009
« on: September 02, 2008, 09:00:06 AM »

Hello,

As some other users on this forum, I have stupidly upgraded my version of quickbooks 2007/2008 to 2008/2009. As a result of this third party software that loads daily supplier invoices, sales, layby's and money streams into QB does not work anymore.

The third party vendor claims that the SDK is not working at all and that QB was sending them an updated version halfway of July to fix these issues. This has not happened or has not addressed the problems they raised.

Of course the third party vendor should have warned me not to upgrade, however you would expect these kind of things to be well checked out by Quickbooks. In the end the third party vendors are one of the most important ways to distribute your products.

At the moment I am running two months behind entering my daily sales and have to start looking for an alternative. Obviously MYOB comes to mind, but I would be very surprised if I can convert my QB 2008/2009 file to MYOB. Which means a whole lot of rekeying. Just what you need ....

Does anyone have similar experiences with the SDK?

Do you have any advise on converting QB 2008-2009 to MYOB

Thanks

We are developers working with MYOB and (until QB 2008) QuickBooks. Thought it may be helpful to post several replies from the Reckon SDK section. These are inresponse to our emails regarding the fact that the SDK is so flawed as to be totally unusable. We have been unable to obtain from Reckon a date when they will have an SDK that works - and it now appears that they will need to have initial work done in the US and Canadian versions prior to any final development work in Australia.

1. We are still investigating the issue and currently do not have a time frame. A number of business decisions have to be made around this issue as if we change the code it will affect a lot of partners who are already sending through money without tax. Also, due to the new taxation model in QuickBooks worldwide, this has affected the calculations between the SDK and QuickBooks and thus we need to asses the impact before rolling a change out.
2. It does require fundamental changes to the QuickBooks SDK, yes.
3. It can all be corrected in Australia, however it would be better to get the latter countries involved so that when we merge with their software again the error does not reoccur.

We are looking into the issue with the amts include tax options. This is a known issue in development but according to the developers is going to take a significant amount of work to fix. Due to this we were unable to fix this for Version R7 as we could not afford to delay the multi-currency release of the product. We have communicated to senior management the urgency of this problem and are currently working on a timeline for a fix and how this fix will be rolled out. It is likely that SDK partners would be given a patch to give their clients to use before using the third party software.

There were some issues with Release 1 of the software to do with the SDK. That is why we ask our partners to ensure they are using R3 by pressing Control 1 in the product and looking at the release number. If you are not then you will encounter issues which have already been resolved. The majority of users in the marketplace are running R3 as we did not ship to our customers until that release was completed.
The problem with only upgrading the DLL is the fact that it is part of the installation process of every quickbooks user. This means that you don't need to distribute a third party SDK package like the US developers do who partner with Intuit. If we update the DLL only, it means you have to ship the updated DLL with your software. However, to fix some issues, perhaps that is something we can look at in the future.
Your users should have installed at least R3 and soon we will release R7 (of which a beta has been sent to you). R1 of QuickBooks had some issues to do with the General Journal and reporting.
QBXMLRP2.DLL which ships with R3 (and soon R7) is what all users who want to use the third party products should be using.
The R3 version is available now. Most if not all users should have got this in the post by now. If not they can contact our call centre on 1300
784 253 and ask for the update on cd. R7 is being released shorty and again will be sent on CD as it is a major overhaul of the product to include multi-currency transactions.
