Simplified BAS/IAS Report crashes QB 2009/10
« on: July 01, 2009, 06:41:19 PM »

I've just updated to QB Premier 2009/10. With great anticipation I wanted to see if the changes around W1/W2 calculations on the BAS/IAS Report would solve the old problems. Unfortunately, any attempt to run this report seems to cause QB to crash. Any clues?

I have had the same problem.  QB Pro 2009/10 crashed twice and altered the Trial Balance - moving the sales figures of one invoice to tax payable.  The only way to fix it was to restore the backup.

What did you guys upgrade from? Which versions? ... and importantly - which release of a particular version.

Ie V.17 (QuickBooks 08/09) R3 or R6 or R7 or R8.

Oh dear Shirley - I knew that's what you would say, but I hoped it wasn't.

Ok - back up immediately - don't get rid of any back-ups you did just prior to the upgrade from 08/09 - now (in 09/10) rebuild the data file (under File > Utilities).

Did this fix the trial balance errors??

If not, you should have received a disk with 2008/09 (R8) on it. Load this version, restore your 08/09 back-up, then perform a rebuild - this should fix the trial balance - then upgrade to 2009/10.

**** Never perform a rebuild with 2008/09 R6.

NB. I'm condensing a lot of this - hopefully a rebuild in 09/10 will fix the issue. Please post if it doesn't.

Just found the solution to this problem. refer FAQ Q12445 which basically says you have to uninstall QB and any previous versions and then reinstall as new package (ie don't upgrade past version).

I have confirmed this solves the problem

Shirley, please load R8 before going to 2009/10 (if you can).

The W1/W2 is a separate issue for Trebor, and was only caused by leaving old version files (from 08/09) on the system.

The Trial balance error was purely 2008/09 (R6).

Well, I'm not sure about 'crashes' but my simplified BAS/IAS comes up with zeros.  If I check the report 'payroll liability balances', there is data present.  I have tried the suggestion above about rebuilding the datafile, but no luck.

Previously we had 2008/9-R7P, now it's 2009/10-R2P.  The report did used to work previously, but not sure if it has worked since the 2009/10 upgrade.

Sorry if this is a little off topic, I can move it if someone is offended (sorry), but this thread is the closest Google match to our problem.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Ok, so now I feel both stupid and annoyed...
It must be that since the 2009/10 upgrade, I needed to reconfigure the report (more than the 'Config' Button.  Need to press the W1 'button' and select Allowances and Gross Payments, then press the W2 'button' and select PAYG Withheld.  All ok now, but annoying that those settings seem not to have transferred from 2008/9 as part of the upgrade.

Hope this helps someone out.

Hi Ice...

Yes... 09/10 has finally been fixed so that W1 etc... is taken from the payroll item (PAYG) rather than the payroll liabilities ledger account. This is why it didn't come across from 08/09.

Having tested on many 09/10 data files I am yet to have W1, W2 show incorrectly (which was sometimes the case with previous versions).

A note to everyone on this topic as well... I had a client today whose BAS would not retain the correct tax codes. I found that they had UPGRADED from 08/09 instead of uninstalling (clean) 08/09 and loading 09/10 as a fresh program. Once we removed all versions and installed 09/10 the simplified BAS worked as expected.

I have set the tax codes for my BAS report as it was all zeros after installing 2009/10 and all the data is correct except the W2 is pulling some number from obscurity all payroll reports show the correct figures but the W2 when linked to the correct liability account is just throwing up a wrong figure?Huh

BAS reports have worked perfectly for me in the past three versions of quickbooks accounting plus.

Great that it's working.

I was going to say... there have been no reports of errors with the 09/10 Simplified BAS other than either human error or corrupted tax items (again - human error).

Good to see that Reckon has finally got this function performing as expected.
