Sever Utility for opening up ports to the server???
Sever Utility for opening up ports to the server???
« on: August 17, 2010, 07:42:18 AM »

Hi guys, new to all this...

Have installed Quickbooks on the server and have set it to multi users. When i try to open up on another computer, it does not work, and tells me that the desktop can see the files, but does not want to share it.

I have been told its because the ports are not open on the server, and there is a little program call "Server utility" or something, which will open the ports or at least tell me which ones to open.

anyone know it??? or have a link to it?Huh

PS.. after 3 hours on the phone to the Quickbooks help line yesterday, I would like to say i am totally disgusted in there service and can not believe the lack of knowledge and ability to help.. (tell im not happy?)

thanks for the help

It sounds like it could be the QB Database Server Manager. From the article, to open it:

"Go to the Start button, click Programs, click QuickBooks, and then click QuickBooks Database Server Manager."

We had this same problem.

You need to refresh the location of you data files from the QB Database Server Manager.

Go into QB Database Sever Manager and add the location of your datafiles.  Nothing will appear to happen, but once done you should be able to get your file to load.

Make sure the Database Manager is running, make sure the File Scanner has been refreshed, make sure ports 10172, 10173 and 10180 are open in the firewall and are excluded from any port scanners or ant virus.

In any desktop Quickbooks you can press CTRL+1 within the program and at the bottom it will tell you which server IP address is hosting and which ports it is using.

You can also get a Network Configuration Tool free from the American Quickbooks site http://www.inuit.com which will tell you exactly what's wrong and how to fix it.
