QuickBooks Pro QBi 08/09 Errors
« on: October 30, 2008, 02:24:41 PM »

We had to wait for the multi-currency version, however we are finding really wierd things happening with customers getting duplicate phantom credits and paid bills being marked us unpaid. QB support have a copy of our file but just suggest refreshing each affected transaction (which coemes undone at a rebuild) as a work around. No discussion of a fix.

I find it difficult to believe that we are the only people experiencing this problem and would like to hear from anyone else experiencing unexplained problems with QBi multi-currency 08/09.

If, as I suspect, the problem is more widespread than us, perhaps we can get some ACCC interest (unfit for purpose) or publicity to get quicken to actually fix it!

Have already started similar through two trade associations.

We use QB Premier 2008-09 and if I knew what I know now we would still be with the 07-08 version.

There is at least 160 bugs that have to be fixed [I have seen the list]plus there are other problems. I thought Microsoft was bad but QB makes MS look brilliant.

According to my information there should be a service pack available by the end of this month [October]. However we are almost there and nothing on the horizon.

Let's hope the service pack gets here sooner rather than later. At present I am not recommending QB to any prospective purchasers and am telling those with 07-08 versions to stay with the version they have at present.

There are many many people who are encountering these problems 1)have a look to see if your Trial Balance balances
2)suddenly a heap of transactions are duplicated in uncategorised incme and uncategorised expenses.

Heaven help you if you are relying on your accounting information to make decisions about your business....

Oh, and I am a subscription customer and I have never heard a word from Quick Books about it...

SP2 was available as of 2 weeks ago via your AP (if you have one). Has fixed trial balance/reminders  error + many others - has performed well in testing and very stable.

Also has option to change the tax amount in journals and bills/cheques which was something not expected in the patch.

Actual PATCH (not requiring re-install) due mid-late December.

How do I get the SP2 as I am happy to reinstall and not wait for the patch.

Does it fix the errors in the data?

regards

Latest Update: Just got off the phone from Quicken. The patch is now available but you can only request a CD at this stage (5-7days postage).

the down-loadable patch should  be available in the first week of December (to be safe, I'd recommend request the CD just in case)

I am holding my breath that this fixes the problems. When this baby works it will be an awesome product.

If performing an uninstall/re-install, please follow these instructions.

Also, check your trial balance before and after install, make a back-up prior to commencing anything, and perform a defrag once completed (the drive the QB database file [*.QBW] resides on) + perform a REBUILD of the data file.

Title       Performing a "clean install" or "clean uninstall" of QuickBooks QBi 2008/09
FAQ ID#    Q12145
Product    QuickBooks
Version    QBi 08/09
Category    Installation
Question    How do I perform a clean install or clean uninstall of QuickBooks QBi 2008/09?
Answer

It is sometimes necessary to perform a clean install or uninstall to remove residual QuickBooks installation files and folders left behind by Microsoft Add or Remove Programs. This is most often required when the QuickBooks function is damaged or when reinstalling QuickBooks does not correct an issue.

Caution: Performing a clean install of QuickBooks requires that you also reinstall any other Intuit software programs that share the same installation folder.

It is also advised to back up your company file to a safe location to prevent it from being accidentally deleted or overwritten. Please be sure to have your QuickBooks installation CD-ROM and license key handy before reinstalling QuickBooks.

To perform a clean install or a clean uninstall;

1. Click the Start button and then select Control Panel:

Microsoft Windows Vista:

a. Select Programs and then click Programs and Features
b. Select QuickBooks in the list of programs and click Uninstall
c. Follow the instructions to uninstall QuickBooks

Microsoft Windows XP:

a. Double-click Add/Remove Programs
b. Select QuickBooks in the list of programs, and then click Remove
c. Follow the instructions to remove QuickBooks

2. Manually remove the following QuickBooks installation folders:

Note: Removing the entire Intuit folder will also remove all of the sub folders that are contained within it. Your installation folders may appear differently depending on the version or versions of QuickBooks installed on your computer.

Windows Vista:

QuickBooks 2008-09:

1. C:\Program Data\Intuit
2. C:\Program Data\Common Files\Intuit
3. C:\Users\<current user>\AppData\Local\Intuit
4. C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit
5. C:\Program Files\Intuit
6. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit

Windows XP/2000:

QuickBooks 2008-09 (Pro, Premier, Enterprise Solutions):

a. C:\Program Files\Intuit
b. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit
c. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit
d .C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Common Files\Intuit
e. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents (Shared Documents)\Intuit

Windows Vista:
- C:\Program Data\Intuit

Windows XP/2000:
- C:\Program Files\Intuit

If the Application Data or Program Data folder are not visible:

Windows Vista:

1.   Click the Start button and select Computer
2.   In the upper left, click the Organize button
3.   Select Folder and Search Options
4.   Click the View tab
5.   Click Show hidden files and folders
6.   Click OK

Windows XP:

1.   Right-click on the Start button and select Explore
2.   Select the Tools menu and then select Folder Options
3.   Click the View tab, and then under Advanced Settings, select the Show hidden files and folders checkbox
4.   Click OK

Once QuickBooks is completely removed from your system, you may proceed with a new installation.

OK, so As I have been so Vocal about what a disaster QBi Premier 2008/09 with Multicurrency has been its only fair that I post the laatest update.

I received my SP2 disks (no email notifications of yet from Quick Nooks though) and reinstalled the program. After following the instructions in the knowlledgebase it seems as though all of my woes have been resolved.

My trial balance now balances once again and orphan onesided mystery transactions in unallocated expenses and unallocated income now nmo longer exist.

As I have said before on a number of ooccassions, this latest version will rock once the bugs are fixed.

As a user of MYOB and QBi 2008/09, there is not question in my mind that the latest version of Quick Books QBi is a fantastic program and I would highly recommend for all existing Quick Books and MYOB users.
