QB Pro 08/09 Estimates to Progress invoice "linking"
« on: August 12, 2008, 10:12:46 AM »

I've started this financial year with QB Pro 08/09...coming from Quicken Cashbook V8 (8yo software ?)... so as you can imagine, it's a steep learning curve.

My billing setup is as follows:(in simple terms)

Customer >> Job >> Estimate >> Progress invoices >> Final invoice.

Progress invoicing seems to work fine if I create an invoice for a job that already has an estimate, but the problem is I have jobs running from last year which I have entered invoices for where no estimate exists.

So I've gone back and entered estimates (because I'd like to take advantage of QB calculating final invoices based on the estimate minus credits and payments) but the invoices don't seem to automatically "link" to the new (backdated) estimate for that job. I've found that I need to delete the invoices and create new ones and use the window that pops up and ask if I'd like to "use the estimate for this job to create the invoice".

Problem is that doing this makes matters confusing and messes up original invoice numbers etc.

Is there a way to make invoices "apply to" or be "linked / unlinked" to certain estimates ?

Clear as mud ?  Grin

Thanks,

-John

No, that's clear and I'm looking for the same thing - creating the progress invoices works well enough, but supposing you create an invoice for a fixed percentage and then later want to that percentage.

You can change it on the invoice itself, but I can't find a way to update the percentage on the estimate itself. Basically the same problem as you're having but I can't see a way to update estimate percentages - at this point I'm thinking it's probably not actually in there.
