Hi

This should be easy but I have hit a dead end. I just started using Quickbooks 2010/11 and added two bank accounts without opening balances when I started. Now I want to setup opening balances which I have done by journal but when I try to reconcile it shows an opening balance of $0 not what I entered as a journal.

I entered the opening balance amout as adeposit and the account as Open Balance Equity.

I have tried to create a new account and put in the opening balance as part of the setup and this works OK. The only difference I can see is that my transaction type is TRNSF rather than DEP. Not sure if this is the problem but can't find how to change it to DEP to see.

Any advice would be appreciated !! Where am I going wrong.

So your journal was a General Journal from Company - Enter General Journal, dated within the Reconciliation Period and it was Dr Bank Cr Opening Balance Equity.

Is that correct?

Just check the journal is not dated forward of your reconciliation date. If you can see the journal in the bank register it should show up in the Rec.
