Title: Online backup
Post by: ahewitt on October 19, 2009, 07:33:29 AM
Just wanted to know if others are using the Reckon Tools online backup service and if they think it is worthwhile. I downloaded a trial version, but it seems that it takes over an hour to upload my file (111,956kb). I thought I'd uploaded a backup, but now I can't access it and when I try to backup again I'm told my storage limit has been exceeded. I'm not finding the help files very helpful either!

Depending on your internet service provider this could be counting to your usage quota and could lead to excess usage fees for example bigpond count uploads as well as downloads.
your file is about 111Mb and an hour or so to upload sounds about right depending on your net connection.
it is also quite likely that they have storage limits and your file is exceeding that.
How much do quickbooks charge for this? as there are many free or very cheap options out there.
I use an apple mac and the mobileme service which includes an Idisk that syncs the files i hjave selected with an off site server.
your ISP may give you some free web space included in your plan this to could be used for offsite storage.
but the cheapest and easiest means would be a quality flash drive on your key ring, so that when you leave it goes with you so in the event of a fire or robbery you still have your backups.
I use my timemachine, offsite backup on remote server, a flash drive, and rewriteable cd-rom for backups.
