Sorry for this post being long...but I feel the need to explain my situation...
WOW...what a mess. I searched the internet to find information on which QBook's series to buy or upgrade to. Was not sure still so I rang QBooks and asked for their advice giving them the details of our small business. They suggested QBooks Accounting...no problem that was the one we were considering. I purchased this over the phone as it was cheaper. When the CD arrives there would also be an 07/08 upgrade that I would have to install first before the 09/10 CD install. Ok...then restore our *QBB file firstly to 07/08 then same again into the 09/10. Did. Upon checking the Trial Balance & our Balance Sheet...figures did not match our 04 figures. Rang support...no help after several things done...so we contacted a Quicken Professional Consultant from their website...paid that person...NOW seem to have bigger problem. Before our file opens..it goes through a short install then config process..a dos screen briefly appears..then a dialog box appears and starts downloading information from ???amy_unidocuments??? no idea. Takes about 5mins to load...once opened still have the problem of balances not matching from previous Qooks Lite 2004 series. Am I missing something, is there a problem or is this OK?? Oh plus after uninstalling and reinstalling I now get error messages...to do with not an admistrator etc & that we have a trojan Generic Qhost....

I am no expert at this but from what you just described, these are my suggestions.

1. If you are on a network (as compared to a stand alone desktop), check to ensure you have administrator rights on the computer that you are installing.
2. check the pre-requisite system requirements for installing that software
3. uninstall the previous Quickbooks software
4. do a virus scan, then disk cleanup and defragmentation of your harddisk
5. verify the old data set to ensure it is free from error
6. re-install and upgrade

Are you running Windows 7 by any chance?? or perhaps Windows small business server??
