Choose which Employee the Super Chq paid??
Choose which Employee the Super Chq paid??
« on: November 11, 2008, 02:20:25 PM »

Hi,

I have being reviewing a clients a super chq to pay the Employee Super liabilities. When running the Employer SGA contributions report, the amount paid is distributed amongst the Employees. I would like to be able to decide how much was allocated to each Employee, NOT have QBooks allocate as it sees fit. The reason being is that the Employer neglected to pay one of the Employees their super with this chq, but QBooks has assumed everyone got paid by date.

Is it possible to tell QBooks who got paid what and thus show the underpaid employees total RATHER than having to make a liability adjustment?

Thanks
Julian

Julian,

You can adjust the amount paid to super in the liability payment window by overwriting the amount - in other words you don't have to pay what QuickBooks says is the TOTAL liability. You can even make several payment to the one super liability item based on the number of super funds the employer uses - you then adjust the super fund name as each liability cheque appears (rather than using the default fund name of the liability item).

To track super more easily I then break the liability cheque into separate payroll item lines and place the employee's name next to each line for future reference.

However, to produce more accurate reports you can either set up a super payroll item for each employee (if there are only ever a few staff), or at least set up a payroll liability item for each super fund that the business uses.

You should never use a liability adjustment except when there is no other option, as you cannot assign the adjustment to an individual employee (it would be great if you could - but you can't).

Hope this helps,

Jason Hollis
