cheques numbering overwrites lettering typed into space

how do i stop cheque numbering  overwriting typed in EFT  and  B/S  on the cheque entering site?
I have recently re loaded Quickbooks 2003.

Have you checked Preferences/ Company Preferences, to see if there is a preference there that chooses default numbers, etc? It might be overriding from there.
